New Look

Or should i say.....old look?
I cut my hair today. The first thing that came into my mind when i woke up today, was to cut my hair.
Given that Im very fickle minded, I went to the saloon without hesitation. My brain doesn't think too much when I just woke up.

Haha so there it is, went down to the saloon straight away, and had all my fringes cut off.
Some laughed, some said I am the me on the first week of my uni life, all quiet, boyish, nerdy looking dude.

There's 3 papers coming, gotta go.

Hard Rock Cafe @ Batu Ferringhi

Yes yes!! Its the grand opening of Hard Rock Cafe at.....well you've guessed it, Hard Rock Hotel in Batu Ferringhi.

Located in the Pearl of Orient, Hard Rock Hotel Penang is iconic, bringing the multicultural Penang to new heights with its authentic Hard Rock experience. This hip and trendy resort in Penang is suitable for families, couples and singles for their relaxing accommodations.

It was our utmost pleasure to be invited to perform for the opening ceremony of Hard Rock Cafe. Being one of the most famous chain restaurant on the globe, it surely is one of the highlights in our memorabilia.

Our high expectations didn't go into waste. As soon as we've reached the hotel, we were greeted with rides, that are not norm in the roads of Penang.

Lamborghini

DB9 Aston Martin

Classic Ferrari

Hummer SUV

Tonnes of Mr Harley's Cycle

There's only one thing to feel about being a part of the opening ceremony....Feels utterly great. Although we're only performing for like 10minutes or so, we're being treated more like guests rather than performers here. The best thing is that we're allowed to wander around, take pics, chill around and all.

The opening ceremony starts at night, and we were there since 2 pm. Rehearsal was at 3pm and it lasted only for like 30 mins. So we had only one thing to do during the hours before the opening ceremony. Explore.

Hard Rock Cafe (Yes that's Michael Jackson you're looking at)

Hard Rockers!

Beach View of Hard Rock (The pool is pretty cool, its like an artificial beach)

Us being us

So this is what we did, walk around, sight seeing, chat and take pictures. It was like some sort of free getaway for a few hours. Finally, the opening ceremony finally begun. Due to lots of VVIPs on the invitation list, we've waited for another hour before the event can finally begin, non other than our Chief Minister Lim. But there's not much to be said of, he's a busy man, driving all the way down the narrow road in Batu Ferringhi, on a Saturday night, guarded with tonnes of securities and police officers.

Speaking of the ceremony, it was too bad that we didnt take any pictures or videos. Due to our culture and the dominance of chinese people in Penang, they were greeted with Lion Dance, chinese drums, malay kompangs, and other malay instruments that I do not know the names. The finale of the opening, what else?? Breaking guitars into pieces of course!!

Night view of Hard Rock Hotel

It was a fun day indeed. Tiring indeed, but it was fun to get away from computers, books and our little boundaries. There were some disappointment though, like our expectation to the hotel's interior design. It wasn't as grand, or shall I say ROCK enough like what we've anticipation. But the opening ceremony for Hard Rock Cafe was great indeed. And for sure, we've decided to leave a final mark before leaving the event.

Long long month

Its been a long while since i last updated my blog.

2 weeks back was like a hell to me. Projects and tests, they all took a toll on me. For the last 2 weeks, especially last week, I've only slept for approx 3 hours per day, maybe less sometimes.

Well actually it is more of my own procrastination. Imagine 4 final projects, given the whole semester to finish it up, its done in just one week. The best part it, the due date is for all is on the freaking same week.

Then there were tests as well. Doing projects, and part of your mind just keep thinking of those tests, which so much limited time to study, it makes you confine and stress your mentality. Studying early in the morning, doing projects at night, sleeping at the wake of the chickens' clucking.

Drum performances! Urrgghhh. Its freaking fun to perform outside; free food, lotsa sight seeing, but during these busy periods, its not that fun at all. What makes it worst is that sometimes its hard to reject when you're being called for.

Then there was USM Fencing Closed. The competition was mainly to test out where our level are so far, and well i was glad to win in men's epee. But honestly i felt that wasn't really fair competition, pk was injured in the finals. The worse thing about this competition is about my mental strength, its a total contrast to my physical.

There's a lot that happened during these two weeks too. Its hard to blog all of them out. Frustration, arguments, emo-ness, grumpiness became a part of me, and for most of the people here as fatigue and stress were draining our conscience and moral.

Now that all are over, its time go look forward to the finals, which is coming in 2 weeks time. Time study, time to change my attitude

Old Me

I attended my oldest cousin's wedding on last Friday
Congrats Raymond & Ivy!
Met up with all my uncles, aunties, cousins, ah-sam, ah-pak, unknown people, bla bla bla.

I was sitting in the same table as my younger cousin Steph, and we chat for awhile before the food was served.

Steph : Hey, remember the last time I saw you in One Utama?

Me : Erm.....(trying hard to think back when was the last time i saw her)....Owh yea...quite some
time ago...

Steph : So.....is she your girlfriend?

Me : (Stoned)....NO! We're just friends

Steph : Har? Why don't you get a girlfriend?

Me : Why? Ain't it nice to be single now? I mean....I'm still young what. Enjoy life first.

Steph : You're still young?? For your age, its time to get a girlfriend

Me : Where got? Hello, I'm just 21 years old!! Like that also called old meh?

Steph : WHAATT!! You're 21?!?!?! I thought you're like 27 or something like that. HAR....that
means you're like 5 years older than me only!

Me : WHAAAATTTT??!! (Louder than her) DO I LOOK LIKE 28 TO YOU???!! I LOOK THAT
OLD MEH???

Steph : No laaaaah, you look mature laa....

Me : (PHEWW.....some sort of relieved)

Steph : No, actually you DO look old (giggles)

Me : zzzzzzzz.........owhh food is here, makan...... makan

This was one of the most stoned moment, my younger cousin saying that I'm old, 7 years older than my original age. I mean, we've known each other for like ages and she thinks I'm that old.
This also proved another thing, we've never been kept in touch for a very long time.
But me! being 28!!! Moment of speechless.
It makes a person wanna LOL and start questioning his manhood at the same time.

But its true, that I've not been keeping in touch with my relatives for a long time. And every time we DO meet up, there's no need to anticipate any upcoming conversations.

uncle/auntie/cousin X : Hello Vincent! Wow you've grown so much. So where are you studying
now?

uncle/auntie/cousin X : Owhh, What course? College or Uni?

uncle/auntie/cousin X : Okay, so what year are you in now? How many more years?

uncle/auntie/cousin X : Penang is a nice place huh. The food the very nice right?

uncle/auntie/cousin X : Okay make sure you study hard ok!

X refers to a random number

I think its about time to catch up with my relatives. It's like we only gathered for events, celebrations, have dinner or lunch, spent most of the time eating, part of the time chatting (like the dialogue above) and bid each other goodbye at the end of the day. Maybe its the generation gap. I don't know. Whatever it is.....its time to sign off for now! *yawns*

p.s : Do I really look that old???

Satisfying Dinner

Went to town for dinner today.
Mien brought us for kuay chap.
For those who does not know what is it, it is a Teochew dish of flat, broad rice sheets in a soup made with dark soy sauce, served with pig offal, braised duck meat, various kinds of beancurd, preserved salted vegetables, and braised hard-boiled eggs.
It is a small roadside stall, but not to be intimidated by that, it sure is hell of a good kuay chap.
Nicest one that i've ever had, and for sure, the most expensive one also. As penang food are usually considerable cheap, it cost rm6 for a bowl.
So does it worth it?
It sure does for a kuay chap fan like me, but for those not-so-keen people, save your buck for other stuffs.
There's also a lot of other stalls serving typical penang food. The desserts are good as well.
Where is it?.....I'm not sure of the street actually.
It's a street behind Penang road, the famous Chendol shop.

Got to go now. Assignments are falling more than the bird sh** on my apartment's balcony.

Happy Birthday Mien!

Well, its actually Happy BELATED Birthday to Mien.

Celebrated her birthday around 2 weeks back, didn't have time to update bout it.

Went to Matsuki Japanese Restaurant which is located somewhere near Gurney. Its full address is :

Matsuki Japanese Restaurant
62, Jalan Pemanang, Penang (Cantonment Road) • Tel: 604-229 5504
Opens: Daily from 12.00pm - 2.30pm, 6.00pm - 10.60pm

The atmosphere is quite Japanese-authentic. Wooden layout makes the environment look old but comfortable at the same time. From what i could see, Matsuki comprises mainly on teppanyaki dishes, even though they have sushi bars as well.

We was late that day, very typical us. In fact, we was very very late. The booking was at 7.30pm. We left our house at 7.45pm. It takes around 40 minutes to reach Gurney from our place, you do the math.

Luckily, we still got the room that we've booked previously. Obviously, Matsuki is more for family gathering, old timers and even though it was a Sunday, it was not full.

The food took some time to come, so we took some pics while waiting.

Snapshots

Waited for the food for quite some time actually. Most of us ordered sets, so there's no appetizer or anything help shut our tummy up yet. When the food did arrived, it sure did set the alarm off our tummies.

B'day Cake ~ Choc indulgence

One thing u learn in birthday celebrations........

Never steal the cake from the birthday girl....

or argue with a guy with a lighter

All the girls

All of us

That night quite a night, as its been a long time since we've gathered like that, eventhough we're just a few steps away from each others' house. Overall the place was cosy, food was nice, the pricing is appropriate, the gathering was fun. But what came out of expectation is the outcome after eating the cake is.........unexplainable.

Attack of the Singh

Late for English class yesterday morning. As usual, we were asked by our lecturer, Mr. Rajpal Singh to write a short letter explaining why were we late. The point behind this routine, it remains a mystery to us students. As usual also, our English class is filled with lame jokes cracked by our lecturer, and it surely did a good job for keeping us awake.

Everything was usual, until.....

Mr. Rajpal became unusually high demand of jokes, he cracked a few more for us.....

"I hate to lose. Since young, I never like to lose in anything. Even when I walk to my car and I see people walking faster than me, I would race them to the car.
That's why I'm KIASU".

"I'm a man who's scared of a lot of things.
I'm a man of sins, so I'm afraid to die, because when I die, I dunno where would I be going.
So I'm KIASI".

"You students see, I'm really scared of lot of things. I'm scared of dying, I'm scared of my sins, and when I go back home, I'm scared of my wive......

so I'm KIA BO!!".

Okay his Kia-ness was kinda lame, no doubt but it made us laugh like mad. Maybe it was his expression and intonations, I dunno. But seriously he's a good entertainer. Out of a sudden he even did a ban-ga-la dance like how Panjabi MC hit the world with "Mundian To Bach Ke".

During class, Mr Rajpal always stressed that we must always end with a bang, be it comprehension or oral presentation. Today, he ended the class with a.............

errmm

His classic poem

"Kalau ada misai, itu kucing,
Kalau ada janggut, itu kambing,
Kalau ada misai dan janggut,
Itu RAJPAL SINGH!!".

Cheerio Mr Rajpal Singh

you're the man

Tiredy Tiring Tired

Yesterday was a super tiring day. Slept at 3.30a.m, woke up at 8 to study, went for classes, came back home for lunch and study again, went for Marketing test at 3 p.m, ends around 4 pm plus, thought of taking a nap but played Three Tag instead (fyi Three Tag is a mini game in DoTa).

Ate dinner around 7pm, and went straight for fencing afterwards. At this moment i was seriously tired and sleepy, luckily saw Chern Chung (and his crappiness along him) so it wasn't that bad.

Fencing was kinda fun tonight, fenced with a national sabreist, Nazirul, lost but learnt alot from him. Nice dude, joker overall.

After fencing, went for supper at Roti Bakar (USM version of Old Town Kopitiam). Shocked at what mr Nazirul ordered : Salad Sandwich and Ice Blended Banana Milkshake. I was like wth! Lol he's seriously on a healthy diet man. Usually what WE order after training are mee goreng, nasi goreng...you know...all those stuffs that add calories back into you after 2 hours of burning them. Crap around, stole some food from mei fong ( cuz she can't finish it haha) and that rounds up our supper.

Went back thought of heading straight to bed, but went on for two rounds of Three Tag instead (a minigame in Dota) and finally slept at 4am.

Tiring seriously. Seems like old age is already catching up on me.

Steamboat at Macalister

Penang has been raining cats and dogs for the past few weeks. Unlike KL, i'm tugging hard on my blanket almost every night. Because of this, despite the economy crisis, a few of us (mua house mates and frens) have decided to pamper ourselves for a hot steamy steamboat buffet

Town Steamboat Buffet

It is located at No 63, Macaliser Road, 10400 Penang. Its business hours are from 5.30pm - 11.30pm daily. Call 04-2297273 (call after 5pm) for booking as it is always fully booked

7 of us went and it cost RM 19.90 each. For the amount of food they have, it is affordable and they have varieties of seafood, fried stuffs and shabu shabu. They even have satay, ice kacang and lok-lok stalls (in which u must order, but no extra charges). Dim sum are also part of their buffet menu.

Shabu-shabu pot. Honestly we fried most of the seafood.

Shark's Fins Soup. Limited to one bowl per person

Overall the place was indeed good. The place is not hot, the food are fresh, lotsa varieties (they replenish very fast) and the desserts are good too (ice creams, guai ling gao, jellies). They even provide a small playroom for kids to run around and not knocking pots down. So to round this all up, I would say one of the nicer steamboat place I've been too.
